I Told You in 2019
In December of 2019 I posted a “Hottest Songs Out” post with the Babyface Ray song Still Gone Bust A Band. I learned about this song from the rapper Lucki’s Instagram story and quickly found myself listening to Ray’s 2019 tape “Mia Season 2” quite often but for some dumb reason did not find enough reason to write a full feature. In 2021 Babyface Ray is undisputedly one of the hottest rappers in the game and clearly leading the group of budding Michigan rappers I posted about a few days ago. The chances that you have seen the video’s and heard the songs “If You Know You Know” ft Moneybagg Yo and “Like Daisy Lane” are so high that if you don’t you should reconsider how much you really fuck with this hip hop shit. But I had to expound more on how sick this dude is. Ray’s flow is reminiscent of predecessors like Curren$y and contemporaries like Lucki. Slow, laid back musings on hustling, hoes, and general shit talking are what you can expect from the rapper. Standouts for me include “RIP Jas”, “Pink 10’s”, “Like Daisy Lane” and “If You Know You Know”. Listen below.
